Does Your Blog Engage the Public?

Many of the posts I wrote as a beginning blogger were written for other ActiveRain members. Folks read them and commented, but will anyone (besides me) ever look at the again?? Not likely.

I started blogging in 2009. It wasn't until 2011 that I started realizing the value of localism posts. Many of these were time sensitive, so not exactly Evergreen, but they do provide content to demonstrate that I know my local area. Valuable? Yes!

In 2012, I continued posting local events and activities. I also started sharing HUD listings. This was very powerful and made the phone ring. Of course, the HUD listing were very time sensitive. I also started reblogging "features". My definition of features included reblogs from experts on staging and flooring. The best thing I started doing in 2012 was writing Q & A's. My blog was definitely taking a turn to more consumer driven posts.

It's fine to write posts to amuse yourself and others. It's great to write posts that educate and build relationships with AR members. It's awesome to write posts that engage the public!

Engaging the public is key. You have been tuned into this for awhile. Very good use of your writing time.

Donna, Most of my posts these days are to engage the public and make my phone ring.  Some are for fun and to engage the AR community. It's all good ... we just need to know what our goals and intentions are ... and how to reach them.

First, thx for all the reblogs.  You're the best.

Second, yes, writing for the public is what makes the phone ring.  On my own site, I also get comments/q's from the public (and a few thank you notes).  It's very sweet.

Hi Donna, Like you I wrote a lot of posts in the beginning for our AR community, but quickly realize that it was those market reports, local events, and community reports that interested the public.  I do love Q & A type posts too. I want to get back on track to writing more engaging posts to the public.

JoAnn Moore  I recognize the importance, just need to do it more frequently. Sometimes it's easier to write for my peers!

Kathleen Daniels  It's all up to us, just like you said!

Debbie Gartner  Those were the good old days, when I was reblogging lots of good information. I really should get back to that. It's easy and it's beneficial!

Jerry Newman  We need to challenge each other, my friend. I think I'm going to focus on FAQs in the coming weeks. Are you with me?

I get a lot of public engagement with my market reports. That's why I do them...not because I like writing about the same neighborhood every month. I have one neighborhood report that has gotten me many buyer leads and a listing. I will keep doing my regular market reports.

Debbie Laity  That's awesome. I really need to start doing market reports. I just need to create some sort of blogging routine. Right now it's hit or miss.

Gita Bantwal  We all need inspiration!

I remember the HUD lisitngs and knew that was a hot topic and would get lots of hits. This week I am writing many consumer posts.

Debbie Reynolds  The market has changed and HUD homes are few and far between, as are short sales and REOs. I need a different focus for the future. I think localism and FAQs, oh and market reports is the way to go.
