1. Make the decision to start a project together

You’ve both complained for a long time about your mornings together in your one sink, cramped layout bathroom. Or you just can't wait another minute to have more kitchen counter space. 2. Agree on a budget and stick to it

If unexpected costs arise, work on a solution together and find ways to cut costs on other areas. Be prepared for a contingency plan if major repairs are needed before the renovation can even start. If you are in an older home, you may need new plumbing or electrical wiring in that total “gut job” you plan in the kitchen. This can drastically change the budget if you did not plan for it initially.
