Camilla Mieth was born in Dresden back in 1843. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1855 and emigrated to the United States on the packet ship Tuscarora in 1857. She settled in Utah in 1860.
She married James in 1864, the marriage produced seven children. In 1874 while visiting her husband’s relatives in New York she was trained as a teacher. In the fall of 1874 she returned to Utah. May as well tell you now I’m writing about Camilla Mieth but you may know her better by her married name of Camilla Cobb.
Remember I told she when she was in New York she was trained as a teacher, well she was trained as a kindergarten teacher. If you haven’t guessed it by now when she returned to Utah she founded the first kindergarten in Utah. The school was only opened for two years before it was opened to children of all ages. In 1880 she was made counselor, she remained in that position until 1896 when she was made president of the Salt Lake Stake primary. Her job was to oversee the LDS primary in all of Salt Lake County. By that time the schools she oversaw had an enrollment of 4,000 children, 309 adults as teacher and others. She was responsible for 46 associations (schools). She remained in that position until 1904.
Starting in 1898 she also served as a member of the Primary General Board until 1917. She died in 1933
