Serendipity Sunday: The Renaissance Festival 2016

Last Sunday we visited The Renaissance Festival for the first time. We've lived here since 1991 and this is the first time we went! The only reason we went was because I won 2 tickets! The festival opens at 10am and closes at 6:30pm. Well, I wasn't sure if we would like it, so we decided to go for a few hours late on Sunday afternoon. Boy were we wrong!

We had a fabulous time and wished we had planned the whole day. Now we'll know better for our next visit! While we were there we enjoyed a joust. You can't go to a Renaissance Festival and NOT go to a joust. We also saw 2 performances. The first was a mime magician and he was fantastic. We were laughing out loud! The second was an improv comedy juggling trio. Not nearly as funny as the magician, but still enjoyable.

We missed out on elephant and camel rides, giant turkey legs and many other amazing things. We did however have a cheese filled pretzel which was delicious.

We'll definitely go back and spend more time and take more photos. We might even play dress up!

(Please note: the festival ran June 11-August 14. We went on the last day! It is an annual event, so it will e back next summer!)

Donna, looks like a very fun time.  I didn't know that delicious cheese filled pretzels date back to the Renaissance.

Hi Donna Foerster ,  I remember the first Renesance Festival I went to.  It was north of los Angeles about 1981. It was a great experience.

Hi Donna --- there are so many events waiting for us to "discover" that are practically in our own backyards.

Kathy Streib  Not sure if we'll go next year, or wait a year or 2 to go again. One thing is for sure, I'll pick a day when the temps are cooler!

Robert Vegas Bob Swetz  I would describe it the same way!

At the one we went to in 1981 we ate fire cooked mushroom and onion sandwiches with swiss cheese.  Very tasty! They had two seperate kissing booths, one full of women and one of men.  You threw a sponge at them and the one you hit is who you kissed!  Probably not a good practice in todays world, but it was fun to watch then.  We did not participate, but there was a line of men and women waiting their turn to throw the sponge.

I'm sure there is a lot of interesting things that we missed. We only walked around a small portion of the overall "land".
