As I have been writing about for the past week or so, Concours Week is starting tomorrow here on the Monterey Peninsula. Car carriers are still turning off Highway 1 into Pebble Beach. There is not a parking space to be had here in Carmel-by-the-Sea so it was good that I arrived VERY early this morning. Found an all-day parking spot.
On hoofing it around Carmel-by-the-Sea today (no way am I leaving that parking space), I see many storefronts displaying enticing stuff to the thousands of people who will converge on our little 1-square mile on Tuesday. Yep, on Tuesday and Thursday the town will pretty much close down to traffic. Where oh where will they all park?
There are many "free" news stands all over town, and they are fully stocked including with the CARMEL Magazine with Marilyn Monroe on the cover in which I have my 1 page ad.
Funny thing, I watched one couple pick up the magazine (who wouldn't want one with that enticing cover?) and I said quite boldly, I thought: "if you turn to page 165 you will see my photo."
The guy was pretty quick, he said "will it look like the cover?" I had to admit that this was unlikely.
We all chuckled and went our way.
About 10 minutes later, I am walking down a street near Bruno's, my favorite little grocery store here in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and this car honks at me. It's the same guy, saying "we saw your ad, it's great!"
Hey, that made my day!
