While the new construction market is having its best year in more than five years, there are also scores of buyers looking for a classic Tallahassee home which might be far from being new.

Some people believe that older homes have character, and some believe "we don't build them like that anymore." But there is one thing for certain about older homes that you'll almost always find to be true.

Older homes are often built on better lots and they are in better locations most of the time. Why? Because the people who arrived here first took "the good spots."

This article is the bookend piece for last week's article on newer homes for sale in Tallahassee, we hope you like it.

When you look at our complete list of older homes for sale, take notice of the land size, the location, and the mature landscaping. It's hard to recreate all of that when you build a new home today. And don't forget to check out the table of more than 4,000 older home sales at the end of this article!

You are right Joe Manausa Those that get somewhere first ALWAYS grab up the best locations.

And they probably DON'T make them like that anymore.

Bill Roberts  I'm always amazed at the new construction that sells, in a worse location, with a terrible tiny lot, merely because it has some lipstick in the kitchen and baths.

Yes Joe Manausa And how much would it cost to put that same "lipstick" on the really nice (otherwise) house in the better location? I don't want to say people are stupid, but if the shoe fits......
