Each week, we have been interviewing people in the real estate industry and getting them to share their secrets for success for our Insights For Success Podcast.
When we do an interview with a real estate agent (a real life practicing agent, who is out in the trenches just like many of you) we use a similar format. We ask each person the same five questions. Of course, the discussions couldn't be more unique as I always end up asking a bunch of other questions based on how they respond to this core set of five questions.
The questions we ask are:
1. What is the best source for lead generation in your business? And why?
2. What is one system that you have created in your business that has really helped transform how you operate?
3. What did you start doing consistently that helped your business take off?
4. What advice would you give someone just getting started, or someone that would like to see dramatic change in their business?
5. Given that real estate is a chaotic business, and you are often pulled in a hundred different directions, what do you do to manage your time?
Those five questions serve as the foundation for our discussion. And then, like I mentioned above, I fire all kinds of follow up questions at our guests based on how they respond to those five. The guests get those five in advance, so they all have some great insights they've prepared to share, and then we dig in a little deeper based on what they say.
Who Have We Had On Recently?
Below are our last five interviews. You can find all of them here. And I'll give you a little bit of an idea of what these people talked about. We'd love if you would check them out. I've had numerous people tell me they have listened to them all and have learned something new each time. They normally check in at under 30 minutes, so it's an easy listen and you'll probably end up wishing we had more time with each person.

Loreena Yeo - Loreena really got her business up and running as a result of her blogging efforts on ActiveRain. Even though she isn't as active any longer, she has built a really amazing business. In the podcast, she talks about how making sound financial decisions has helped her build a great business and also how her involvement in her community has been a catalyst for her success.
Melissa Zavala - Another awesome ActiveRain contributor. Melissa has no shortage of different aspects to her business. In addition to running a small boutique brokerage, she has also carved out a niche offering administrative services to other agents who might like to unload some of the not so fun parts of their business. Melissa shows us how much is possible in this industry if you just decide you are going to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you.
Courtney Cooper - My sterling example of a great dominant niche blogger! I've been talking about Courtney for years on ActiveRain. She decided 7 or 8 years ago that she was going to dominate a very specific niche in Seattle. In this podcast, she talks all about how she did it. Courtney is one of my favorite people in real estate. The business she has built all came about because she decided one day she was going to dominate a niche. And it's worked. She shares how.
Kevin Kauffman - Kevin is my real estate agent. When my wife and I bought a home down in the Phoenix area, we knew we were going to use Kevin and his partner Fred. They've always been willing to help me over the last 8 years I've known them. We deviate a little bit from the standard formula with Kevin. In this podcast, we talk about the concept of expansion, and how Kevin and Fred are taking their business model to other states. If you want to be motivated by the endless possibilities to make a really great living selling real estate, this is the podcast for you!
Gail Smith - My mom, hands down, my favorite person in real estate. You might have read the blog post I wrote about her a few weeks ago. It's the story of one agent, brand new to the business, and how she dove in head first and is killing it! In this podcast, we get into the specifics of what she is doing. How has this lady, only three weeks into her real estate career, gotten one deal pending, taken her first listing, and has 7 other clients she is working with (3 of which are cash buyers and will be in town to buy something for sure over two days)? We dissect what she is doing. It's really great stuff. If you are new in the business, this is a must listen! It could really change your view on what is possible.
Who Else Should We Interview?
There are so many people in this industry doing awesome things. I only know a tiny fraction of them. I'll bet you guys know others. So let me know, who do you think we should ask to come do the podcast and share? I'd love your ideas!
