Hemingway's Tavern is a fun watering hole located next to the Premier Oaks Theater in Melbourne. As the name implies, Hemingway's Tavern is a nod to one of Key West's most famous residents Ernest Hemingway.
The decor at Hemingway's Tavern is pure Key West through and through, all the way down to the live feed of the Southernmost Point from Key West on the flat screen TV's. The menu is varied and includes everything from burgers to seared Ahi tuna, pulled pork sandwiches, conch fritters, yard bird (chicken), crab cakes and fish prepared a variety of ways. Cocktails include margaritas and various rum drinks.
I tried the Key West Bowl at Hemingway's Tavern which was a bowl of rice and (black) beans with pulled pork. There was a tasty chimichurri sauce on top with fried plantains (I asked for the pineapple salsa on the side). My friends ordered the Grilled Garden Stack which was marinated zucchini, squash, chayote, onions and portabella mushroom that were grilled and topped with Mozzarella cheese and then drizzled with a balsamic reduction and a roasted red pepper aioli. Yum to both selections!
