When my husband and I first started looking for homes in the Hudson Bend area, we enjoyed seeing the lighthouse that served as a beacon for cars rounding the curve toward Mansfield Dam. It took a few times of approaching the bend and admiring the structure before it hit me "why would a lake need a lighthouse?"
I found an article written 16 years ago in the Austin Business Journal that describes how it came to be. It was built and stood as a utility water tank but was an understandable eyesore that hindered selling homes in the still developing community of Lakewind on Lake Travis. The development manager at the time came up with the inspired idea of making it look like a lighthouse (even adding on the cupola) and then worked together with the water district to turn this potential eyesore into the enduring symbol of the Hudson Bend community.
Lakewind on Lake Travis is a gated community of only 55 properties all on acre plus lots. This beautiful neighborhood offers residents views of the water or the hill country on a winding and meandering main road all near but not visually in sight of Mansfield Dam. Their HOA covers the gate and landscaping within the greater community. Right now there are a few homes for sale in this exclusive community. Let me know if you'd like to schedule a showing.
