a water drink What's Happening In Philly & Suburbs Water is it Safe to Drink

We are reading about  unsafe drinking water all across the United States . Water water everywhere but is it safe to drink . We are not a third world country yet we are finding many places with unsafe drinking water . Water that has been contaminated and hidden .  Families have become sick Children have have died or come down with cancer and birth defects .Still nothing has been done  Newspapers have written articles and done some wonderful investigative reporting  Movies have been made about toxic chemicals being dumped into water supplies . Still silence  from the perpetrators. Our health and the health of our children and future generations are at stake  .

This is not my first post about  this situation . It is not just in the Philadelphia ,Bucks County and Montgomery areas .This is happening all over towns and cities across the United States   Water water everywhere but is it really safe to drink ..

Here are some really interesting articles for local Real Estate Agents to read . I encourage all agents to read and look into these issues . SRA news brief has many interesting articles

Maps added to Bucks and Montgomery county water contamination resources
Over the past two years, 16 public wells and about 140 private wells have been shut down by contamination from perfluorooctanoic acid and perfluorooctane sulfonate in Bucks and Montgomery counties. The former Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster and former Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Horsham, along with the active Horsham Air Guard Station, are thought to be the source of the contamination. The Bucks County Courier Times and The Intelligencer have been reporting on the issue and, as a public resource, have made all of the reporting about the water contamination issue available to subscribers and non-subscribers on their websites – http://www.buckscountycouriertimes.com/news/horsham-pfos/ and http://www.theintell.com/news/horsham-pfos/. Maps of the contaminated areas have been added to the resources listed above.

Realtors are encouraged to reach out to specific municipalities for more information regarding water safety in areas that they may be doing business.

Newtown Borough goes on the record in opposition to Elcon plant
Newtown Borough has joined a growing number of Lower Bucks County municipalities weighing in against plans for a proposed industrial wastewater treatment facility at the Keystone Industrial Port Complex in Falls Township. Newtown Borough council joined Middletown, Upper Makefield, Yardley, Morrisville and Newtown Township in voting to pass a resolution stating its opposition to the proposed plant. Elcon, an Israeli-based company, is seeking permits from the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to build a 70,000 square-foot building that would utilize thermal oxidation technology to process 210,000 tons per year of raw wastewater containing mercury, cadmium, lead and other chemicals. Wastewater treated at the plant would be transported to the facility by trucks from pharmaceutical and chemical companies in at least 10 states. The lengthy resolution attempts to express the concerns of the community about the environmental risks of the facility and stresses the importance of inter-municipal cooperation in the face of environmental challenges to the entire region. In the resolution, the borough urges the DEP and Falls Township to “consider the danger” of the proposed facility “to the residents of Newtown Borough, Bucks County and the Delaware Valley.”

There is nothing more precious than our water supply!  We have problems here in North Carolina with coal ash pits belonging to Duke Power that leech toxins into nearby wells.  It's criminal.

Hi Hannah --- I drink both tap and bottled water but I certainly understand that there are many people who simply don't trust what comes out of the kitchen faucet.

Michael Jacobs  I use ice cubes in my water so I guess you can say I drink tap water too . I do trust Philadelphia water now more then suburban water . Lately I drink sparkling mineral water it is a treat to me tastes so good .  You really have to read labels .

In these specific areas as Real Estate agents I would assume we have to disclose to buyers about the water

Thank you for your input

Hi Hannah - Interesting stuff. It's truly scary what indifference, neglect and greed have done to resources we count on and used to take for granted.
