6 Influential Books that Have Guided Me on the Path to Success

Learning is essential to success; and one of the best ways to gain new information and perspective is in a book. I’ve always been a voracious reader. And, like many people, there are books that have had such a profound impact on me that I’ve read them several times and learn something new every time.

Here is a list of books I go to again and again. If you haven’t read them before, dig in and take notes. If you have already read them, pick them up again and see what you get from them this time around.

The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason
This was recommended to me by a mentor and I’ve read it countless times over the years. Clason uses a collection of parables to impart financial wisdom and good money habits in a easy-to-understand format. Want to become rich? Work hard, sacrifice and adopt healthy money habits to maintain your fortune. This is the book that made me a lifelong student of money. It changed my perspective about wealth and my relationship to my finances.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
Napoleon Hill studied the wealthiest people of his time and found thirteen common principles of their success. His principles are timeless and can be used by anyone, whether they’re at the beginning of their careers or are experienced professionals. If you want to achieve financial freedom in your lifetime, Hill’s book will give you the foundation you need to succeed.

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Carnegie may have written this book more than seven decades ago, but his techniques are as relevant today as they were then. Why? Relationships are at the center of everything we do, especially when we work by referral. Carnegie offers tips to help you communicate better with everyone you meet—your clients, other agents, even your spouse and loved ones.

The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg &
The Power of Full Engagement by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz
I’ve said many times, whether or not we succeed depends on our habits. But, how do we adapt good habits and get rid of the bad ones? If you want to change your habits, these books will give you the tools you need to start. In The Power of Habit, Duhigg delves into the science behind creating habits and offers tip to help you adopt positive habits. Similarly, in The Power of Full Engagement, the authors argue the key the adopting a habit is to establish a routine and make it automatic. Both of these books have changed the way I view habits and have helped me establish better ones to help me each and every day.

As a Man Thinketh by James Allen
Although it was written more than a century ago, this is another timeless tome with practical advice to help us live the good life. Many of us wish for happiness, but it eludes us. Wishing doesn’t make us happy; our thoughts dictate whether we’re happy or not. Allen makes the connection between what we think and how it manifests in our lives. If you want to learn to think positively and change your perspective, this book is an excellent place to start.

I’ve been working on a new book recently. It’s been my mission to share the strategies that helped me achieve success with others who are on the path. Stay tuned for more information. And, if you want more great information to help you boost your business and also live a more balanced life, be sure to subscribe to my podcast.

I've read several of those - however, the one that influenced me the most was "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale.  Written in 1952, it was the first book I read when I started in sales in 1979 and has stayed with me since.

But since I'm a voracious reader too, I think I'll put it into my rotation - thanks for the great idea!

I've read the first 3, and loved them.  Definitely in my Top 10 all time.  Another is Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People".  I'll definitely check the others out.  I used to be more of a voracious reader, but when I started a family, it's been more difficult to find the extra time to read a book.  I read a lot of articles and such, but just haven't been able to get to the books.  I plan to start again soon.  The reading helped with my concentration and thought patterns (I've noticed).  Thanks for the list!
