Being a better agent is not about a CRM

Recently I needed the services of an attorney for some personal real estate issues. I called a firm that I have recommended to several of my clients.  I was shocked.  When the phone rang the person who answered simply said, “Hello.”  There was no other greeting nor identification of what firm I was talking to or whom I was speaking. 

Eventually I determined I was connected to the right firm.  They took my name and number and promised I would be called back.  Four days later I am still waiting for that call. In the meantime  I reached out to one of the partners in the firm via e-mail.  He responded, asked some questions, I provided the answers, and then nothing.  No acknowledgment, no meeting set, no advice to follow, nothing.

The response system they are using isn’t working.  Does it make them better or worst attorneys? It does not. They are fine attorneys from what I gather.  They are apparently not good at follow up to phone calls and email. Does it cost their firm clients, referrals and business?  Yes.  I for one took my business elsewhere.  I called another firm that answered my call professionally, returned my call in a timely manner as promised and scheduled an appointment with me.  They now have my business.

I ask you to think back on how you treated your last 10 transactions.  Do they feel you respond quickly, professionally, and with accurate information?  Did you follow up with them in a timely manner?  Did you meet or exceed their expectations?  Did you set up the next step with them? Did you provide them with solutions do their needs?  Did you make money?

If nothing changes nothing will change.

If the answer the phone professionally, properly, identify yourself a strike up a conversation. Return phone calls promptly as possible as well as follow up on all emails. No CRM can do this for you

Thanks for sharing Ray Stockwell A pleasant hello is similar to a firm handshake. There are so many robo answers and robo calls to reach a  "real" person with a personality is nice these days


On a side note, you being from Boston, David Ortiz should hang on for another year don't you think?

CRM is just a tool to organize an agent not be able to sell. That comes from the agent.
