Bat by Bob TimmWhen I posted about destroying a wasps nest one or more comments were of concern that I had killed the bees. I get that, I understand bees are dying off at an alarming rate BUT wasps can be nasty neighbors when they don't like you being around.

The little fellow to the right is much more to my liking.

I do mean little, from noise to tail he/she is about 2" long.

I think these little bats are cute (as long as they are sleeping). I also understand they eat a lot of insects.

Just to be clear, I like the little guys, not the ones the size of geese. I remember not being to fond of them when I was a kid at my folks lake cabin in MN. Then again the rumor was that they would get in your hair... back when I had hair.

Important to make that distinction between wasps and bees, killing off a nest of wasps can be good for your bee population.

They do compete, and wasps will attack a hive of bees.

As far as the bats go, fine if they are outside, but inside bats meet the tennis racket.

I did not know that wasps and bees did not get along Bob Crane . Your comment about bats and tennis rackets made me LOL.

Well just to be clear I just had a deal go south because the neighbors were jerks and had four bee hives they placed around and harassed the buyer... so I am with you 100%, Endre

WOW, that is really nasty Endre Barath, Jr. I would think those neighbors would be opening up themselves to a lawsuit for harassment.

Good morning Bob. Wasps are creatures I like to avoid, they have a nasty temper

They sure do James Dray . I've been lucky this year but last one stung me about 4 times in the stomach before I even knew what was going on. It happened inside my garage so there wasn't even a nest around.

Bob, a few years back, I had a cat drag in a live bat through the cat door and was batting it around the kitchen floor.  You can be that cat door got locked down as soon as I got the poor bat back outside.  They are creepy looking.

And wasps are a little scary when they are nesting on your home's exterior.

I can see it Patricia Kennedy and I agree, bat belong outside. Pet doors lead to a lot of interesting stories.

Agreed Sally K. & David L. Hanson . Allergic or not I would not care if every wasp on earth was eradicated.

Bob,

In Napa, because our home was on a hill, we often had to have wasp nests removed, they make them with mud.  Early on we learned to removed them the minute they started and that discouraged them from coming back...We do like bats and bees.  And there are people here in our area who will happily come and remove bee hives for free and relocate them.  A

That's a great idea A. of Ron and Alexandra Seigel , to have someone remove/relocate the nest. Over the last two years the wasps nests at our home have been ground nests which makes getting rid of them very difficult.

Bees are pollinators and wasps are not...Getting rid of a wasp is not hurting the pollination of flowers.
