Hudson Bend Area Labor Day Food Drive
Each year my husband and I like to ensure we do something meaningful for a food related charity. In my past life as a marketing executive for a major food company I learned quite a bit about the issue of hunger and food insecurity in America. The ones most impacted are usually children.
1 in 6 people in America face hunger. The USDA defines 'food insecurity" as the lack of access, at times, to enough food for all household members. In 2014, households with children reported a significantly higher food insecurity rate than households without children: 19% vs. 12%.
Instead of sending a check this year, we decided to organize a community food drive and partner with the Central Texas Food Bank. We'd like to ask the residents of Hudson Bend to drop off any non-perishable food items to our home at 3001 Noack Drive. If we aren't home when you stop by, feel free to leave donations in our gated courtyard. If you'd like to have us pick your donation up from your house, e-mail me (address below) with your name and address and we'll come to you. We'll deliver all donated items to the Food Bank on September 6.
The Food Bank's most requested food items:
-peanut butter
-canned chicken and tuna
-canned low sodium vegetables
-canned fruit in its own juice
-dry pinto beans
-brown rice
-non-fat dry milk powder
-100% whole grain cereal
if you have any questions, feel free to give me a call!
