Whether you are a tourist or you live here, there are some fun things you can do in Washington, DC - and these are all free!
The National Museum of Natural History: you can check out Hope Diamond (remember, it's cursed!) and visit the Insect Zoo.
The National Zoo: grab your camera and get some wonderful shots of the pandas, elephants, hippos, and birds. And lots more. The Zoo provides hours of fun for children of all ages.
Rock Creek Park: take advantage of the huge sections of the park that are closed off for pedestrians and cyclists to enjoy the Park on weekends without being menaced by automobiles! It's shady and relatively flat for - just hilly enough to provide great exercise.
The Air & Space Museum: You can see The Spirit of St. Louis and Amelia Earhart's old Lockheed (not the one she crashed). It's a magical place for children.
The Jefferson Memorial: this is not only a place to honor an important founding father. There are interesting exhibits on the lower level where you can learn more about this period in our early history.
These are all things you can do on the spur of the moment, and on Sunday afternoons, you can often find pretty easy parking downtown and near the National Mall. And there are links for each attraction where you can get more information about planning and enjoying your visit.
