There's no earthly way of knowing ...

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

There's no earthly way of knowing, which direction they are going, or which way the river's flowing, is it raining, is it snowing, Is a hurricane a-blowing?

The best sing-songy quote of Gene Wilder's, in my memory.  C'mon, you can all hear it in your mind's eye.... er, mind's ear.

Gene Wilder had such a storied career.  Young Frankenstein (Frankensteen!), Willy Wonka, Blazing Saddles, The Producers (I'm wet, and I'm miserable). The woman in red, Silver Streak, and the list goes on and on, not to mention his numerous appearances and cameos on other television shows, movies, as well as live theatre and Broadway....

He's been notably missing for a while, an apparent victim of Alzheimer's, a disease I have far too much experience with, and he finally succumbed to complications from the disease.

Ahh, he will be sorely missed.

I'm pretty certain there IS an earthly way of knowing, which direction he'll be going.

It's really sad just how many icons are leaving us this year. And I don't use the word loosely. Gene Wilder was a good, kind, not to mention funny man. His loss leaves yet another gaping hole in our galaxy.

Thanks for posting this. Alan. I had forgotten that song. The quote is appropriate for a real estate blog. Sometimes there is no earthly way of knowing which way some of our clients are going.

The kind of humor and comedy is sorely missing in today's world,  IMHO.  You lose, good day sir!   I loved his pairings . . . with Teri Garr, etc.

and, of course, Madeline Kahn.

Loved Gene Wilder, too many fond memories to pick any one that stood out, but I could watch Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein for hours

Blazing Saddles, is still one of those true Laugh-Out-Loud movies.

Alan May I've always been a Gene Wilder fan.  One of my favorites was with Harrison Ford in Frisco Kid.  This was a more subtle performance than most. I remember falling out of my theater seat laughing at Silver Streak.  All of his pairings with Richard Pryor were so funny.  He was one of a kind.

I believe there is an earthy way of knowing ... Alzheimer's is a terrible disease as are so many other diseases that are killing people.  Thankfully, he died before the disease itself took completely over.

Kind of miss Gene, he was such a funny guy. I remember several of his scripts that make me relax. He is not as inspirational as Jonathan Livinston Seagull. There is a bldg near our house dedicated to Jonathan.

I'm sure that Gene would be confused to learn that his scripts made you "relaxed".
