Our Neighborhood Roadrunner in Palm Desert CA

Roadrunner in Palm Desert CA

We spied this fellow wandering around the condo complex where we used to have a rental unit in Palm Desert. He didn't stay still for long, and while he didn't move as fast as that cartoon Roadrunner he was pretty speedy. We were there checking on the rental unit and found him standing in front of the door. With lots of lizards around in the hot summer sun (over 100!) he no doubt was having a feast.

We occasionally see them here in Carlsbad but they seem to like the hotter weather.

Patricia Kennedy  - I thought the same thing as soon as I saw this photo and decided to share it. How can one forget!

Nina Hollander  - they are pretty neat birds to watch, and they really can run fast. Plus they are pretty large, and they make a funny sound

Hannah Williams  - nope they are the real deal, and pretty common here in the SW USA

Sybil Campbell  - I hadn't either until I moved to SoCal. It was pretty cool to see for the first time.

Yes they can, but they are so fast it seems they prefer that. I've seen them fly up on to our backyard fence at a prior house

Jeff,

We see them here in Santa Barbara.  Our cats were fascinated by them, and they were inside at the time.  A

They are pretty cool to watch because of their size, and they act so differently from other birds. And our cats' eyes were huge - what a potential meal. Although I suspect the Roadrunner could outrun our cats easily.

Hi Jeff -- I can't remember the last time I "saw" a roadrunner --- either the roadrunner was so fast or my eyes too slow.

Hi Jeff Dowler ,  Thanks for sharing your roadrunner photo.  I'm surprised he wasn't just a burr.

Michael Jacobs  - well they aren't always easy to spot and the ones I have seen seem to be on the move

Larry Johnston  - ha ha. Well this one seemed to me looking for lizards so he was just standing there. Lucky and my camera!
