A Bug's Life

A Bug's Life or one could call it a true love story I suppose.  Back in 2012 when Pam and I were looking for our daughter's first car we drove to Madison Tennessee to check out a 2007 Convertible Beetle at Hallmark VW. I had haggled about as far as I could via email and phone so time for some face to face tactics (I so enjoy the art of negotiating).

While I was in game mode, trying to get to my price and the sales manager trying to stick to his I realized I was missing my partner.  I turned to see Pam staring at a Red Super Beetle on the show room floor.  I excused myself and went over to get her (Gents, even though we say we "are the man" anyone who has been married for a while KNOWS his better half runs the show).  I asked Pam to join us and she was simply in her own little world.

My focus was on the 2007 for our daughter but Pam had other ideas. I quickly informed her that (1) it was a stick (she does not drive a stick), (2) it has no air conditioning, and (3) we were there to buy our daughter a car. Her response was quick – “I will learn to drive a stick”. I finally got her back on track with me and we made the deal on the 2007 – took it home and hid it away. Pam had not forgot about the Little Red Bug and me being the guy I am decided that if she wanted it, we were going to do some more negotiating.

Well, to shorten this part of the story we took a good friend who is a VW genius with us to ensure that the car was solid and had no significant issues. Worked the deal and brought her home. The “Bama Bug” as Pam named her was our first classic and first show car. While Pam never learned completely how to drive her, it did provide us with some great memories of Sunday cruises and car shows.

As we got into 2016 the whole Family got into classics and showing. My first project with the help of some dear friends was built, we were blessed to find a 68 Ghia for our daughter to show and Pam found her dream car in a 65 Mustang (one she could drive). As you can imagine, space got tight in a hurry and our Bama Bug was relegated to the back corner of the garage which was not fair.

We decided that it was time to let the Bug go so I put her out on the internet. After about a week I received a text “is the bug still available” and I politely answered that it was. The gentleman responded that he was the previous owner’s son and that his dad had regretted trading the bug in back in 2012 and had been looking for it ever since. Next thing I know, I get a call from Charlie the original owner whom I had met briefly back then at the dealership. We made arrangements for him and his son to come see her.

Yesterday evening, Charlie drove away in his love with a huge smile on his face. He build the car, had cared for her for 14 years, had thought he had lost her and by a miracle from God he was able to get her back.

Now that is a Bug’s life and a Love story! If you want to visit Charlie and his Bug he will be at the Goodlettsville Show this coming weekend. Stop by and get a picture with him and tell him I said hello!

Some of you might be wondering why I would write a blog about this on a Real Estate sight.  Well, while I might be rusty I used to blog alot here and anyone who knew me then (and now) knows that I enjoy a heart felt story and sharing with others many interests beyond the profession.

Sometimes it will even make someone smile!  Have a blessed day folks!

Tim and Pam Cash That was a great story about the little red bug. Ironically, I owned a '68 and it had an automatic and it was a disaster. Glad you got the stick!
