We have affordable housing and our weather is warm and sunny. We thrive on our music venues and entrepreneurial spirits. We love our hill country topography and treasure our green spaces, biking and hiking trails. We are open, friendly and hold tight to our vest our heritage, values and traditions. We support our farmer’s markets and local restaurants, which there are many. We like to have fun!
Austin is a hot bed blending the “Austinite” way with the new resident’s idea of how Austin should look and feel. We are flooded with newcomers because of our enviable #1 distinction of job creation. The skyline of Austin is changing daily with cranes everywhere. Austin was a secret and now the cat is out of the bag! Everyone around the world is talking about our relaxed way of living and our Texas hospitality. Austin is changing but we are still holding on to our deep roots that remind us of where we came from and are enjoying the ride to where we are going.
Lake Travis is now 100% full!! After years of drought we are blessed with rain and will never take our natural resources for granted again. Active people who love the outdoors are drawn to Austin because of our gently rolling hill country surrounding Lake Travis and Austin. Water skiing, tubing, sailing, riding wave runners and zip lining are enjoyed by everyone. Pickups pulling boats and wave runners headed for the lake are a common sight even with Fido hanging out the window!
The Salt Lick in Dripping Springs is a like a rite of passage one must experience if they are going to move to Austin! In 1967, 100 years after the Thurman family moved from Biloxi, Mississippi to Dripping Springs, TX Thurman Roberts cleared an area on their land and built a fire pit only cooking with live oak because it burns cleaner and more uniform. It is still used to this day. Thurman would start cooking Thursday evening and slept on a cot while the meat cooked. He sold the meat until it was gone! Now they feed around 2,000 on a Saturday. What makes their meat so good? They put sauce on the meat four times while cooking!
