Wordless Wednesday: Buddha's Hand for Sale

Buddha's Hand for Sale

The Temescal Farmers Market in Oakland was a fun place to visit on Saturdays, with some interesting produce, and people, and a guarantee you'd find something tasty to eat. We used to go with our daughter and her family when they lived there every time we got the chance on our visits.

Buddha's Hand

This Buddha's Hand was particularly intriguing. I had no clue what it was when I first saw it but it was certainly photo-worthy. Buddha's Hand is actually a type of citron, not a lemon.

Jeff,

We see Buddha's hand quite often at the Santa Barbara Farmers market .  It is related to the lemon since both are in the citrus family.  It originated in China and the lower Himalayas, and is considered a symbol of happiness, lngevity and good fortune.  Some say Belinda Spillman that it was named that when the fingers are closed it like two hands in prayer.   I love seeing them.  Great picture Jeff!  A

Hi Jeff... had to check out your post after reading the title. I've never heard of Buddha's hand and had no clue what it looked like or what it was. Until now, of course. Learning something new in the Rain every day, it seems.

Hi Amanda S. Davidson

I've seen a number of different fruits and vegetables here in California that I had never seen before. And new things seem to keep popping up. They were pretty cool looking.

Hi Jeff -- again, I have learned something new via ActiveRain.   Interesting.  I'll need to check for Buddha's hand the next time I visit a Farmers Market.

Hi James Dray  - I've never had one but supposedly there are rather lemony. According to my reading there is no pulp or juice, so it seems to be primarly zest. I may have to do some more research.

Michael Jacobs  - we learn all sorts of things here, don't we?

I don't see those in my market or grocery. I do think If I saw some I would by them and try them.

Debbie Reynolds  - as long as you could buy part of one. They are pretty big and I have to wonder how much you could really use one.
