The other evening I received a call with an apology for calling so late in the evening There seemed to be a but of a problem . They saw a rental listed on Craig's list .They also saw that it was for sale with me as a contact . The add on Craig's list was by someone else who wanted $500 wired to them in Florida
When they received the money the person wiring it would then get the keys to the property . Oh no I replied this property is not for rent it is occupied . It is for sale only . Do not send any money this is a scam . This sweet girl apologized again for the late hour . I told her no worries and thanked her for the call . She then sent me a screen shot of the add . I thanked her again and we ended our call
The next morning I received another call . This time from a woman .She also was almost a victim of this add .She had a phone number and wiring instructions for the money . She was on her way to church but wanted to contact me to make sure this was not a legitimate add . I told her no it is a scam . I also told her to notify the police . I certainly was going to call the police . I thanked her for the call and all the information .
I called the seller and told her what was going on . She is an older woman and she became a little confused . Next I called the police department . I received a dispatcher who asked questions . She said an officer would call me back .
A few minutes later a very nice police officer did return my call . I identified myself . I was asked my date of birth and many other questions . I gave the officer all the information I had including the screen shot . I feel he had enough to hopefully catch this person before any harm was done .
Never wire money to unidentified individuals - especially strangers on Craig's list
When looking to rent a house use a reputable source - Thankfully these people were smart enough to investigate this add as a SCAM
