ActiveRain Practices: Deceased Members

Newer members of ActiveRain may be surprised to discover that some of the blogs they might read are by members who are no longer alive. The names of deceased members also appear on the Leaderboard. If you die tonight, you may be remembered by your last blog so you may wish to make every blog you write reflect the way you wish to be remembered.

I would like to see some designation on the Leaderboard that shows that the member is deceased. Perhaps the word "Deceased" behind the name with a date if available would be a nice tribute and a way to recognize these members.

What are your suggestions for deceased members? Should there be a "deceased' designation? Should the points status be removed or should it be retained?

Hi Roy,

I think some might think that of me, though as you can see, I am alive and well. I like your idea and perhaps "In Memorium" would be a nice way to designate the deceased.

There are days when I think the "deceased" designation would fit as an accurate description of my present state.

I tend to agree with the comment made by Kathleen Daniels .

I think something should be done for our membership. Good point you brought up.

I like Maureen Bray comment of "in Memory of" and the point that Ron an Alexandra made that the posts remain on ActiveRain+.

Good luck and success.

How about the Active Rain blog roll in the sky. I know that some people have stopped blogging but I wonder how many have passed.

Yes, Roy I think there should be memorial designation much like with military or CIA wall in Wash DC.

Great question Roy with a lot of opinions about it. In Memory of sounds fine to me. I also believe they earned every point and should remain on their account.

I think we should keep deceased members on the leader board. I know of one member who is no longer with us, and I like going back to see some of her posts. Congratulations on the feature.

Roy I think you have really brought a good point to the forefront.... not sure how I feel about it... I like to honor people who have helped us along the way... it is a good thing to do... like a wall of honor! Respect

Nice post, this is a family of sorts.  I would like to see a last time on line next to each members name.

I am not sure what the answer is. When I am gone I don't think I would want my posts to remain up. So many are real estate related and are about me being in business. That would no longer be the case and would be misleading just like some people that request their profiles to come down. After awhile we will all be a dim memory.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

If you knew when they were born, you could put 1960 - 2015 as the date under their name and that would be informative. I don't think the blogs should be removed as though the words no longer have impact. I was wondering, though, about Lori Kim Polk, who used to blog on Active Rain, and I found out a few weeks ago when I came back from Spain that she had a heart attack and died. Who do you tell?

Karen Hellier has a featured blog about "liking" blogs as you leave comments. It is interesting to note that less than half of the members who have left comments on this blog have "liked" it.

Hello Roy, this is a very important question you've raised, like some others, I like

I like the dates - (19__ - 20__). Really, though, unless friends here in the rain know, how would we know that someone has passed? A lot of people simply quit blogging. You wouldn't want to remove someone's profile and contact information only to find that they've only taken a different marketing path.

As for me - I don't care one way or another. If some of my posts on marketing and real estate grammar can help someone fifty years from now - good.
