I don’t know about you, but when I walk into a North Scottsdale home for sale, or a home in any neighborhood, the first thing I notice is how the home smells. I can be so impressed with the exterior and landscaping, but a bad odor can ruin the whole experience inside. It can be the most beautifully decorated home, but certain odors can be a turn-off to potential buyers.
Food
Any odor from cooked food can linger on in a home. Stovetop fans help. Opening a window isn’t a bad idea either. Beyond that, to eliminate food odors in your North Scottsdale home for sale altogether, wipe down hard surfaces, wash drapes and curtains.
Also, while it seems like common sense, throw out the trash immediately after cooking and leave a “small bowl of ground coffee or vinegar” on the counter to absorb foul odors.
Avoid cooking fish, spices, or ethnic foods while your North Scottsdale home is up for sale. These items seems to give out more potent odors.
Appliances
Plan on buyers opening appliances when they look at your home. The refrigerator is what you need to worry about the most since the biggest odor can come from this appliance. Make sure to remove smelly or rotten food and place a box of baking soda in the fridge since it absorbs odors. All appliances should be cleaned regularly.
Clothing
Keep your North Scottsdale house for sale from smelling like a gym. Get rid of the smelly socks, shoes, clothing, and any workout equipment with perspiration on it. Wash clothing regularly — don’t let it pile up.
Pets
The concern with pets has more to do with allergies rather than odor. However, you’ll still want to brush and bathe your pets regularly. No one likes to smell pet urine and feces. You might even want to clean your carpet.
Smoke
Cigarette smoke odor is a tough one to get rid of in your North Scottsdale home. Consider using a high-quality primer prior to painting to shield the smoke smell. You could try painting the room where you usually smoke and replacing carpeting and fabrics.
Bottom line, when selling your North Scottsdale home, you must stop smoking since smoke sticks to everything — even light bulbs. Try leaving a bowl of vinegar out for 24 hours. This might help absorb the odor.
Air Vents
It’s a good idea to change filters for your heating or air conditioning system. This will keep lingering smells around the house at bay. Check air vents and wall outlets to see if the bad smell might be coming from a dead mouse or something else.
Mold
Mold is definitely something potential buyers don’t want to smell. Use a dehumidifier to kill the smells or use chlorine dioxide to kill mold spores. You might want to even hire a professional since mold can make you sick if it lingers around too long.
