Home Maintenance Schedule & Checklist From Carolinas Realty Partners

Home Maintenance Schedule & ChecklistOwning a home carries more than just financial responsibility to make timely mortgage and tax payments. Owning a home also means maintaining your home. As I like to remind my clients, "your home is a living and breathing entity and you need to take care of it on a consistent basis to keep it in tip top shape."  It's also worth pointing out that when you neglect home maintenance, the ultimate cost to fix or repair problems can be much greater than maintaining on an ongoing basis.

An easy way to stay on top of all the tasks involved in maintaining your home is to have an annual schedule and check list, like the one pictured below. This schedule provides reminders about monthly, seasonal and annual maintenance... easy to follow and easy to do.

Bob "RealMan" Timm ~ good morning, Bob. Thanks. I don't even think of window a/c units anymore, since leaving NYC. In Charlotte area, it's almost always a form of central air now.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Call 631-805-4400 (c) ~ hi Sheila and Larry... I'm often amazed how people neglect the simplest things in their homes, like changing filters. And then they wonder why their mechanicals don't function well.

Good Morning Nina - i am going to make a copy.  When we buy a car we get an owners manual with a maintenance schedule.  Not so with home ownership but very important.

Karen Hellier ~ hi Karen... just went through this with a seller. Wood rot on two doors was neglected to the point where it couldn't be repaired. Much more costly to buy, paint, install two new doors!

Hi Nina

This is such a useful list. There are some homeowners who do a great job of maintaining their homes, and others who don't...and you find that out at home inspections! Keeping up with things is usually less expensive, and less of a hassle, than waiting until there is no choice.

Jeff

Jeff Dowler ~ hi Jeff... as one of my clients discovered this week having let wood rot on two doors go unrepaired... now he needs two new doors. Much more costly.
