I took a couple of days to sneak away and participate in the Texas Association of Realtors (TAR) conference this year held in Galveston- one of our state's most charming and historic beach cities.
A long time Realtor colleague was installed as TAR incoming state Chair - Vicki Fullerton. Plus, I was honored to be selected to serve on 2 TAR statewide committees - International and Housing Initiatives.
This year the TAR International Committee chaired by Holly Hightower was updated on Texas housing by Dr. Luis Torres, a research economist from the Real Estate Center at Texas A and M. He elaborated and expanded on some the information I had previously blogged about a few days ago. He indicated that the Texas International buyer's market continues to be roburst but is evolving into more diversified and worldly group of international buyers than we in Texas have previously seen coming into the Texas housing market. Other announcements included the date of the AMPI conference (Oct 5-8) and the TAR CIPS cruise scheduled for February 26, 2017.
Reference my attendance at the Housing Initiatives Committee, which was chaired by Hortencia Cisneros, covered a significant amount of information. We had great discussion and dissemination of information. The Texas Association of Realtors (TAR) is sponsoring TAHS which is Texas Affordable Housing Specialist certification training Sept 21/22nd via video broadcast. Currently 3113 Texas Realtors hold the TAHS certificiation. A lively discussion was held about how to encourage and facilitate more Texans with the opportunity to buy a Texas home. Much discussion centered on the funds collected through the years and held by our charitable trust gathered from income received from the Texas Realtor license plate program and how some of that money might be most effectively disceminated to assist people to buy a home. Past TAR and Committee Chair Dave Dalzell provided significent insight.
All in all a good conference held in a beautiful city.
