Los Feliz a hillside neighborhood of Los Angeles, CA 90027
Thanks to one of the first land grants in California approximately 6,647 acres of land was granted to Corporal Jose Vicente Feliz. The land was called Rancho Los Feliz There were a few ownership transfers and ultimately one of the owners became Colonel Griffith J. Griffith. Needless to say he acquired about 4.071 acres of the original Rancho Los Feliz.
Those of you who read my posts regularly know I have written about Griffith Park, which Colonel Griffith donated to the city of Los Angeles. ( Griffith Park )The Greek Theater also calls Griffith Park it’s home. (Griffith Park )As well as The Griffith Park Observatory. Of which I have written about as well, in case you missed it here are the links.( Griffith Observatory)
Some of you who like trivia, might be interested to know, that Mickey Mouse was “born” in Los Feliz, since Walt Disney drew his first image of the world famous Mouse in the garage of his uncle’s house.
Two of the most famous Frank Lloyd Wright homes call Los Feliz their home as well: The Ennis House (which I have written about previously) as well as the Hollyhock House (needless to say I need to write a post about that soon) (The Ennis House ) (The Ennis House by FLWrigth )
Los Feliz has always had strong ties to the Motion picture industry. Disney had his first animation studio in Los Feliz, followed by his second and larger studio (now a Gelson’s supermarket). There were other early studios such as D.W.Griffith’s, First National Warner Brothers, ABC Television Center KCET Public Television. Anyway you get the idea.
North of Los Feliz Blvd there are some great mansions that have phenomenal downtown Los Angeles view, commonly known as the Los Feliz Hills a magnet to many Hollywood celebrities. The household income of the ones living in the hills are around $200,000.00 compared to the median in the flats is around $56,000.00
Now if you are interested in some demographic data, there are about 37,000 people living in Los Feliz which translates about 13,500 people per square mile, interestingly one of the highest population densities in Los Angeles County.
There are some wonderful Restaurants, boutiques, coffee shops and even bookstores that you can spend days’ afternoons and evening to your delight.
