A few weeks ago I felt a huge sense of excitement as I watched Serena Williams on TV at the US Open Tennis match. She is really someone I look up to and what was witnessed a few weeks ago was as exciting or maybe more than what I remember of seeing John McEnroe back in the 1970's.
For people in Chicago Land there is even a stronger sense of excitement today as we get ready to possibly see the Chicago Cubs win the division. Tonight at 7 PM the Cubbies will be playing the Milwaukee Brewers and the city is going nuts.
What makes this even more special is that there is a special rivalry between the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers. You see Milwaukee the home of Laverne and Shirley and the Fonz is only a 90 minute drive. Some consider Milwaukee to be like a suburb of Chicago.
If you go to a Brewers game you will find pockets of Chicago Cubs fans rooting for the Cubs and likewise for the Cubs games at Wrigley, people drive down and watch the game, the true fans. The end of Summer baseball is very exciting for us. We are very used to saying "maybe next year".
It is 70 degrees and almost no wind so it is very pleasant out and maybe, just maybe this will be the start to the Cubs winning the World Series. The Cubs have not won the National League division since 2008. Wrigley field is the oldest ball park in America besides Fenway Park in Boston. Also Wrigley Field is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood called Lakeview. You may think I am kidding but people who live in this area or who talk about it call it Wrigleyville. A made up name for the neighborhood. I leave you with these words, Go Cubbies!
