Creating a Facebook business page is only the first step in marketing your business online. Once your page is setup, you need to create posts that engage potential and existing clients.
Why is creating the perfect post so important? With over a billion daily active Facebook users and the majority of their time spent looking on their News Feed, your posts need to stand out if you’re going to stand a chance of catching their attention.
What features on a Facebook users News Feed is determined by Facebook Edgerank, an algorithm which gives priority to posts based on several factors, such as user's past interaction with your page (likes/comments/shares), if photos and links are included, and how old the post is.
So with that being said, here are my 6 tips for creating posts that will increase engagement with Facebook users.
A Powerful Image & Link Is A Must
Including a powerful image in your post is a no brainer in my opinion. Better yet, make sure you include a link that provides your audience with more information. Facebook reports that images that also include a link outperform posts that simply include a image. Make sure the image is related to the link, which should be self explanatory if it’s really going to have an impact.
Focus On Sharing Expertise & Knowledge
Steer clear of obvious self promotion in posts. Instead focus on topics that your target audience will value. Think about what the aim of each post and this will help determine the content. Do you want to target people looking for their first home? Maybe the post should focus on how people can successfully search for their first home. Such targeted posts could be interspersed with general real estate content. If you’re stuck on what to post, here are 5 post topics specifically for realtors.
Keep It Brief
According to a study conducted by Track Social, there is a correlation between the length of a post and engagement (likes/comments/shares/clicks). The less characters a post has the more engagement it is likely to get. Post containing 40 - 70 characters get the best result. Remember, the more engagement your post receives the more likely your post will feature high on your audiences News Feeds.
Ask A Question
Questions are another great way to increase engagement. Questions that contain words such as ‘should,’ ‘would,’ ‘which’ or ‘who’ see the best results. This is because these words allow you to ask simple questions that don’t require a lot of time and effort for your audience to answer. If you use words such as ‘why’ or ‘how’ you're likely to get less engagement as the answers will require greater explanation. For example, ‘should I renovate my kitchen before I sell?” is likely to get more responses that “why should I renovate my kitchen?”
Timing is Essential
To give your post the best chance of engagement you need to consider timing. Facebook statistics show that Thursdays and Fridays is when user engagement is at its peak. While Monday and Tuesday have less engagement. In terms of time of the day, early afternoons are the best time to post.
Post Regularly
Make sure you regularly post to your page to ensure your posts feature on top of News Feeds. It is recommended that you post 3 - 4 days per week. I would suggest, putting together a plan for the week by identifying the content and days you will post. It can also be helpful to put reminders in your calendar so that you keep to your schedule.
Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail
This may sound a bit daunting at first, but once you have a plan in place and commit to it, you will start to see results further down the track.
