Why do so many homebuyers want to live in Brookside? You need to spend a day here and find out!
As a Brookside resident for many years now, I will try to describe here why it's one of Kansas City's most popular areas to live in. It's a friendly spot, very walkable, and a convenient location near the popular Country Club Plaza and Westport areas, plus just about five miles south of the Kansas City downtown business core.
Most of the homes here were built in the early 1920s...therefore, so charming! The architectural detail and pride of craftsmanship is evident. Although there are some similarities in styles (many Tudors) and construction (brick and stucco exteriors; peaked roofs; arched doorways; glass doorknobs; intricate crown molding), the exteriors all look a bit different--no cookie cutter homes here!
The heart of Brookside is at the intersection of 63rd St and Brookside Blvd. Here you will find so many locally owned shops, boutiques, restaurants, two groceries, services (dry cleaner, banks, post office) plus tennis courts (free) and a bustling Farmer's Market five months of the year. Some of the restaurants offer outdoor seating during warmer weather -- great for people watching and saying Hi to your neighbors that stroll by.
Another useful amenity in Brookside is the Trolley Track Trail. This trail was once the location of an actual trolley that went through Brookside. Now it's a popular walking/jogging/running and biking trail. On Saturday mornings especially, you'll see many dog walkers and kids learning to ride a bicycle! The Trolley Track Trail also runs near Suicide Hill, which is a popular spot for sledding during snowy weather. Brookside also offers easy access to the MAX bus service, whisking workers and shoppers various areas of the metro, including downtown Kansas City.
The Brookside Business Association organizes many neighborhood events each year, the most popular one is the Brookside Art Annual, happening the first weekend of May. Brookside is also home to several parks, large and small, plus a few fountains.
On many Brookside blocks, neighbors know one another and often host annual block parties in the streets. There are single people living here, along with seniors, kids, newly married couples and downsizing baby boomers. All are welcome! Prices in this area can range from a fixer upper homes near the $200K price -- all the way up to well over $1,000,000. If you are interested in moving to Brookside--contact me!
