Last night I had a great time at the ZZ Top concert at the Rosemont Theater in the Chicago suburbs. What I like about ZZ Top is that is it simple, Blues biased and Billy Gibbons sounds so good. It is hard to believe that they get this much sound out of a three piece band. I leave you with a photo and video I took last night. I got back to basics.
"ZZ Top is an American rock band that formed in 1969 in Houston, Texas. The band is composed of bassist and lead vocalist Dusty Hill, guitarist and lead vocalist Billy Gibbons, and drummer Frank Beard. One of just a few major label recording groups to have held the same lineup for more than 45 years, ZZ Top has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike for their technical mastery. Of the group, music writer Cub Koda said, "As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support."
ZZ Top has the longest-lasting original lineup of any major rock band – the Texas trio of Billy Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass) and Frank Beard (drums) have remained together for more than 45 years.
But until now, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers have gone without releasing a live album. More than four decades on, they’ve assembled LIVE – Greatest Hits From Around The World.
The album features moments recorded in cities around the world over the course of several tours. It covers the gamut of the band’s work, from their early hit, “La Grange,” to a couple of live collaborations with Jeff Beck in London, including the Tennessee Ernie Ford / Merle Travis song “Sixteen Tons,” appearing on a ZZ Top record for the first time."
