Fabulous Maine Coastline

Over the years I have taken too few vacations but this year I was determined to get away. With the help of Log Me In, I was able to access my computer and took care of bsuiness all the while enjoying some of the most magnificent scenery that I have ever seen.

The trip though was one of the most spectacular that I could ever have imagined. The beauty is so beyond what I expected and I can't even begin to count the number of Light Houses I encountered and included among my many photos. The harbors are so beautiful that I had to re-think a bit about thinking California was one of the most beautiful states. Between the drought and the fires, the shine is a bit off for me.

California these days are various shades of brown, while Maine was so lush and green, it gave new definition to the color green. I will include a few photos here for your enjoyment but with so many photos, I will have to share them over time.

I will say this, if you ever get the chance to visit Maine along the coast, I can pretty well assure you, you will be more than pleased with the sights and sounds. I am glad to be back, though I am really tempted to want to own a summer home there.

Hi Patricia Kennedy , Thank you, I noticed the views are so vast, it is actually difficult to capture the depth  and detail of the views.

William, It is certainly beautiful country.  We've taken a couple of long weekends to Boothbay Harbor and love the scenery.  And you can taste the seawater freshness in the lobster!  Bill

William,

We have had the good fortune of traveling through Maine.  I love your pictures, and I wished you had included a lighthouse.  They are very special as they recall a time when they were a beacon of hope for those who worked in the ocean and seas.  Thanks for sharing your pictures, and having kept Myrl Jeffcoat in mind.  I loved the ship and the sign.  A

Hi Ron and Alexandra Seigel , Here you go. There are so many lighthouses to pick from but I thought this one especially nice with the big red stripe.

Hi Chris Ann Cleland , The scenes were so beautiful and in some cases just darn right charming. This photo of old boats stacked up struck me as charming.

Patricia Kennedy , Thank you so much for including me in last week's selections.  Maine proved to be one of the most beautiful and friendly places in the US I have visited. I was taking a couple photos in Kennebunkport of the Bush compound and I saw Barbara in the window waving to me. That was so sweet of her to notice me.

One of my favorite parts of the trip was also visiting Nantucket. The homes there are so amazing. Loved the look of the cobblestone streets and the whole culture there. If not Maine for a second home, Nantucket would also be a favorite. Guess I will need to double or triple my business to be able to make one of these destinations a possibility. In the meantime, I will remain " stuck in beautiful San Diego". Certainly, a wonderful place to be stuck, huh!

I'm glad you got to take that trip up the Maine Coast! It sure is beautiful! I took a job and lived there for five summers. It was the highlight of my life! If you go back to Bar Harbor, be sure to go on a whale watch. It will thrill you! The coast is so different from any other state I've been to. Your pictures are great. Many a summer day I lounged around on the rocks like in photo #1. From NH to the upper coast I traveled and I couldn't decide which one I'd want to live in at that time either. There used to be a Lighthouse Inn that tourists could spend the night inside a lighthouse. Many doctors rented it for the weekend.

I guarantee, your memories will live on for a lifetime! Go back soon!

Patricia Feager , Coincidently, one of my favorite past clients lives on the coast in Portland and has invited me back to a guest in her home there and depending on if and when I can get away, going back is a high priority and who knows, maybe even this year.

All I can say is for those who have never been , they need to be careful because falling in love with the coast is as likely there as here on our coast. For different reasons of course but both wonderful experiences.

If you go back to Portland, you might want to try the Lobster Shack. I believe it's in Cape Elizabeth by the Portland Head Lighthouse. I don't eat seafood but they served delicious chicken & fries! Back in the late 80's it really was a shack on the ocean and you had to sit on the rocks, listening to the splashing of the waves while you ate. Nobody talked. We just enjoyed the ocean view and sounds of the waves. The last time I was there, they expanded to make it more like a restaurant with outdoor seating. It's between the Portland Head Lighthouse and another lighthouse. This area is by Two Lights State part and quite scenic! Mainers are good about inviting people over when you visit the State of Maine. I would take them up on it because they are all very proud people and love to talk about Maine!

Ah, yes... it's easy to fall in love with either the East or the West Coast! My kids felt the same way and spent more time there than me!
