And the Answer is....Vertical

By

By the year 2070 the population of Florida is project to be 34 million people. It stands at nearly 21 million now and it seems like half of that lives in South Florida. When I packed my bags and left NY behind me the population was a mere 9 million and oh so nice.

Suburbia and all that goes with it will claim double the amount of land now covered. The University of Florida and the state department of Agriculture are preparing research as what to do and the apparent answer is vertical building. Let's all see how that goes....

Very soon, Marco Giancola we will be feeding on 'Soylent Green' as well with too many people on this floating ball of dirt in the galaxy. What ever happened to the advice for population control that came out of the 60's and 70's?

I know! I remember all that replace yourself or less 60's control stuff. Now every single girl in town is getting knocked up because its cool and the gov't supports them.

Hi Marco, I grew up in a vertical city--NYC--so I'mn used to living that way. While we have more of that construction happening in uptown Charlotte, it's still mostly smaller condos and rental apartments. I think it will be a while before we see vertical overtake horizontal in my area.

I would agree-you all still have a lot of huge green areas to destroy

I think by then people might be living on the water, rather than next to it, haha.  Such a beautiful looking city!

So exciting to see the future as we lived it in our past!

With all the cranes in the sky and the scaffolding on the sidewalks it is already gridlock downtown Miami....and it is crawling up to metro Ft Lauderdale and Palm Beach.

Good morning Marco. Very nice photo, I first moved to NW Arkansas back in 1984 the population for the entire county was just under 100,000 now it stands a little over 250,000 and growing.  The small town atmosphere is apparent however, the growth is also apparent.  Sigh, miss that old town feeling.
