Fall Comes to Carlsbad CA Today

First Day of Fall in Carlsbad

It's hard to believe but today is the first day of fall, and the Fall Equinox. It seems like summer just started and now it's come and gone.

The beaches are quieter now that many tourists have left, and the kids are back in school.

Fall leaves

The leaves have been changing - yes, we do have fall colors here in SoCal, it's just not as dramatic as elsehwere in the country. Our temperatures haven't changed much yet, however;  in fact September and October can still offer us some pretty warm weather, and can bring us the Santa Ana winds. We even had some much welcome rain earlier this week which is unusual. The days are noticeably shorter and we are halfway to the shortest day...and Daylight Savings TIme will end in less than 2 months.

Jeff's summer photoThe holiday season is off and running - Halloween is just a few weeks away and stores have been preparing for weeks now. And we are seeing the holiday shopping season beginning, with displays and specials to get your shopping done well in advance of the late December rush.

Fall also means the end of my summer profile photo and back to the standard...until summer 2017!

The trees are giving hints of fall here too. I am hearing talk of Christmas and it is just 12 weeks away. How did that happen?

We aren't seeing much color change in the trees yet....saying the color won't be dramatic this year because of the drought. I hope they are wrong.

I have been up in the hills the past 6 days and the biggest treat was being in the middle of the changing trees.  8510 feet above sea level brings some thin air but gorgeous colors.

Jeff I love the Fall, but unfortunately when Fall arrives, the white fluffy stuff is just around the corner :(

Hi Debbie Reynolds  - the changes happen too quickly, and the holidays come much too fast.

Sharon Tara  - I suppose time will tell. Hope it's a beautiful season for you!

That's beautiful, Belinda Spillman  - thank you. I've enjoyed seeing your fall photos, the colors are amazing!

I walked into the garden center at WalMart yesterday and the artificial Christmas trees were all lined up.  When I walked inside, the first thing I saw was Halloween decorations.  Very weird.

I miss the "summer feeling". Its my favorite season even here in SoFlo. I am just not into that non stop holiday mess coming up.

Pamela Cendejas  - yep the holiday season arrived some time ago at a number of stores. How can this be?

Lisa Von Domek  - that's an interesting idea. Haven't done that before, although I do have a photo just for Christmas. Something to think about!

Ha ha Michael Jacobs . You're right!

Marco Giancola  - I'm definitely not ready for fall, winter, and the holiday season. I enjoy it, especially with my family, but it's too much for too long and it started weeks ago!

Hi Larry Johnston

It's always an interesting process to see, and it happens pretty quickly. Can't believe it's here already!

Have a wonderful weekend!
