They're Better At It Than I Am So I Pay Them To Do The Work

By
Real Estate Agent with Transaction Alliance 513.520.5305 www.LizTour.com SAL.2002007747

When I was younger I'd have done it myself.  I'd have looked at the estimate and thought "No way am I paying THAT!!" and I'd have found time to do it myself.   And what I was willing to do to save a buck covered a wide breadth of "skills":

  • Auto maintenance
  • Home remodeling & repairs
  • Tree cutting

And for every one of those projects, I've got a story to go with it where something didn't go quite right.  Sure, I might have had the tools to do the job, but I didn't always have the knowledge and proficiency that went with those tools.

A spring pops out, how do I get it back in?

Who'd have expected the water lines to be THERE??

But yit was supposed to fall THAT way!!!!

I learned lessons the hard way and today I'm much more willing to write a check and let the pros take care of what I need done.

Today we've got a crew of house painters working at our home taking care of some exterior work that needed done before the cold weather sets in.  Those three guys in one day have stained our deck (and it's good sized), color matched our new garage doors, stained our porch ceiling,  touched up the porch columns, and painted our home's foundation.

It's something I COULD have done myself, except it would have probably taken me weeks to find the time.  And when I found the time, it would have taken me WAY more time to do the job than the folks that do it for a living.  No, I'll easily concede these painters know more than me about their craft, and are way more efficient with their time.  I'll happily write the check to have this done in a day versus me doing it in weeks of "spare" time that I just don't have to spare.

Now if you're thinking about selling your home on your own, you COULD do that.  The tools are out there, but do you have the proficiency with those tools that an experienced agent team has?  We have the experience to make your selling a house as easy as my day of "painting"!

Just give us a call at 513-520-5305 or email Liz@LizSpear.com and we can discuss how we can best help you!

Gwen, Some things I'll pay for, other things I prefer to keep direct control of (such as blogging).  But that's a personal preference because I enjoy the writing.

I have hired someone to do the lawn maintenance at the office for that reason and I'm "" close to hiring them to do the house too.  Only issue with that is that my dogs are VERY VERY stressed when they can see strangers out the patio door or windows and if they hear something they ARE going to stick their heads through the blinds.

BLiz- we are singing the same tune.  Often Larry will attempt a project that had he the right tools and had he done it countless times would have been done in one-tenth the time. Now he is happy to write the check and let the professionals handle it.  They're also the ones who know what to do when those "oops" moments happen.

Tammy, Most of our pets aren't fond of strangers either, even when they're just outside.  One of our cats who NEVER has trouble eating breakfast or dinner passed on eating this morning.

Kathy, And those "oops" moments that are far more likely for the nonprofessional, and ultimately can be more expensive than starting with a pro from the beginning.

George, Thanks!  It's taken a lot of blogging and commenting to get there, but in the next 2-3 days we'll formally cross that number :)

Was thinking the  same thing this week. As I'm preparing a presentation I kept having problems with it downloading correctly to a pdf. Find out after 3 hours that their was a bug in the document that I was unaware of. Cost me hours that could have been spent getting business. Do what you do best and outsource the rest!

I had this happen this week too--it seems like the more important it is that the document get finished, the weirder the technology issue is that arises to prevent that.  And for me, it always seems to be after the tech support office closes.

Great post, and I like the way you tie it in with why someone should use you to sell their house!

As an aside, my parents (they are in their early 80s) are now realizing that they can no longer do everything themselves, and are actually hiring people to do things, like paint the inside of the house, replace carpet and flooring, dig up the yard.  It was especially hard for my mom, who insisted that nobody else could do as good a job at painting as she did, but she was amazed that the professional licensed painter finished everything in 2-3 days instead of 2-3 weeks.  (She is very stubborn though--we'll see how long this lasts...)

Good morning Bill and really good move too. I used to do more than I do now but not as well and it always took more time.

Donna, It's nice to simplify when we can!

Janice, Some things I'll outsource, others I want total control of (e.g. our websites).  Technology is both boon and bane, and I hate the time lost when it doesn't work write.

Althea, I can related!  My parents are now in their mid-70s and used to being very independent, but even they are willing to hire out SOME things they used to always do themselves.

Sheila, It's the time thing mainly for me that stands as the obstacle.  I can't do everything I want done on my own, so hiring out is the solution.

Hi Bill - That's an excellent argument for hiring a qualified agent to handle real estate matters - I'm gonna steal it and use it. Thanks!

Liz and Bill Spear ~ Bliz, your point is well received. I need to get a haircut soon, and even though I can buy some scissors and watch a few YT videos, I will leave it to a professional
