Don't Let 10 Seconds Ruin Your Day

Twice in as many days, I've had to slam on the brakes to avoid thoughtless, careless drivers. The first day, my cell phone, file folder, and stack of bills slid onto the floorboard as I dodged driver number ONE, who decided to cross oncoming traffic without yielding.

Because I read an uplifting Facebook post (compliments of Joshua Feuerstein) the night before about not letting something minor ruin my day, I shook it off and went about my "Lady Gestures Confusion With Hands"merry way. #shakeitoff

A similar instance occurred today when driver number TWO crossed my path when clearly I had the right of way. This driver got the "arms tossed in the air, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?" look. Still I made an effort to shake it off and not let it get me down.

I'm sharing the 30 second video and hope it helps you remain calm and shake off the negative vibe. Don't let someone's careless, rude, inconsiderate action or comment ruin your day!

You can't be too careful on the roads these days... so many drivers are distracted with all sorts of  things... phones, texts, etc. When I get frustrated at near accidents on the road because of these people, I allow myself to feel that frustration for a few minutes.

Hang in there, Pat Starnes ! Like you said, just shake it off to ...stupidity, or arrogance and disrespect is also a real possibility here. Either way; you are too far above it all to let it crush your positivity.

He's right, but it's tough to shake it off. I'll give it a try. It's worth it to free myself!

Pat that is exactly what we did Thursday evening during bumper to bumper rush hour traffice we got stuck in.  The driver behind us didn't pay attention and rear ended us on the passenger side. It wasn't too bad but I'm sure it will be at least a couple of thousand and it messed up my neck a bit.  But.....we simply exchanged names and got his insurance and went on our way.  Since then we've said many times how fortunate we really were that it wasn't at a higher speed.

Lots of crazy drivers out there, Pat.  Probably distracted by their phone!  Thanks for sharing that wonderful short video putting things in perspective!

I have no idea what is going on in the universe, but many drivers are acting like nut cases out on the road.  Parking lots are the worst.  And, it's not just the drivers there, it's the pedestrians not paying attention to where they're going because they are staring at their cellphones.

Pat, what a nice reminder!  I think it's easy to let something silly be a total buzz kill!  So good advice.

Pat unfortunately those 10 seconds do tend to turn my day upside down.  I hope that someday they no longer do.

Nina Hollander - I work harder at shaking off the bad juju since seeing this video. Maybe the good vibes will last a few days, until I need another reminder to shake off the bad and focus on the good!

Sandy Padula and Norm Padula, JD, GRI NMLS#1483386 - Why, thanks! I'm trying to keep the bad vibes away.

Donna Foerster - try it. I hope it helps!

Anna Banana Kruchten - I'm so glad you weren't seriously injured in that fender bender and hope your neck doesn't give you too much trouble. You are really looking on the bright side. I'm not sure I would be so gracious. :)

In a previous job I averaged over 70,000 miles a year. A lot of it on interstate highways. It taught me to be patient and forgiving. Everyone makes mistakes, and some are really stupid. I always hoped that when I made one no one would get hurt and all around me would forgive. Then I hoped that I didn't get tangled up in another driver's stupid mistake.

Pat, You've got to be constantly on guard now.  I've been hit twice in the last 2 years and both times I was sitting still when it happened.  And I've lost track of the number of drivers I've seen wandering all over the road.  Bill

I don't let rude people ruin my day. I'm glad you were able to avoid an accident as these other drivers weren't paying attention, and could have caused one.
