Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training in 2016 begins on Wednesday, September 28.  The program provides free training to Alameda residents and people who work in Alameda so they may learn to be self-sufficient in a disaster. Class members will learn skills to enable them to provide emergency assistance to themselves, their families and neighbors.  Along with the training will come peace of mind.  If you know The basics of what to do when a disaster occurs you will feel you have more control.

There are six classes in the training including Personal Preparedness and Hazard Mitigation, Disaster Medical, Fire Suppression/Hazardous Materials, Disaster Search Techniques, Basic Incident Command System(ICS) and a Completion Exercise.

CERT Mission Statement: The Alameda Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is the organizational umbrella for neighborhood teams of trained volunteers who live and/or work in the City of Alameda. Under the guidance of the Alameda Fire Department, with oversight from the Alameda CERT Executive Committee (ACEC), volunteers receive basic emergency response training, practice skills during neighborhood drills, and advocate neighborhood preparedness. Following a disaster, CERT volunteers provide aid and assistance to the limit of their training within coordinated relief operations to reduce the impact on their community. Alameda CERT responds to community needs with a sense of urgency, care, impartiality, and humane treatment for all inhabitants.

Alameda is a wonderful island community, with its tree lined streets, friendly neighborhoods, great schools and lovely architecture.  It is a very desirable place to live.  I write about events and items of interest to Alamedans. I am also a member of Alameda CERT District 1 and a member of the Alameda CERT Executive Committee.  If you have any questions about CERT please call me at 510.504.5612.  If you like what you see here, please come back for more or visit me on my Facebook page Living In Alameda and my Living in Alameda blog.
