Recycle Bins

The Bottom Line on Recycling Do's and Dont's

There is no single standard for recycling - every community sets their own.

Phone Books and Pizza Boxes are often not welcomed by recycling programs.

Not all plastic can be recycled. Look for the recycling symbol to be sure.

Did you know?

Your local community or trash pickup firm can usually advise on recycling regulations.

Do Recycle:

  • High-quality plastics labeled with number one and two recycling symbols.
  • Food and beverage containers, such as milk, soda, water, salad dressings, etc.
  • Jars and canisters such as those used for peanut butter, soap, and aspirin bottles, etc.
  • Mail, junk and otherwise, including brochures, fliers, white/light envelopes, etc.
  • Aluminum, tin and steel cans, such as soda, beer, tuna, vegetable, etc.
  • Printed paper such as newspaper, magazines, phone books, legal pads, etc.

Don't Recycle (usually):
Be sure to check with your local recycling officials, since some of the items below CAN be recycled in some communities.

  • Plastic bags
  • Newspaper delivery bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Lids from glass containers
  • Pizza boxes
  • Phone books
  • Mirrors
  • Aerosol cans
  • Paint cans
  • Wax paper
  • Food-soiled paper
  • Window glass
  • Ceramics
  • Light bulbs
  • Microwaveable food trays

Hi Lisa... I'm a big recyler. My recycle bin typically has more in it than the normal trash bin.

Amen to recycling Lisa. We must to more to protect our planet. It is so sad to hear about plastic floating around in the oceans.

Great list, Lisa. Hope thi inspire those that do not recycle to do so.

We have a huge bin each week of recycling, and our town offer curbside pickup, along with trash and green waste, as well as a huge recycling center for bottles, cans, and so much more

We try to recycle whenever we can. Prescription drugs are something that we can recycle twice a year through the local police department.

Those are great reminders to recycle and think green and responsibly. Our Association even recycles.

Lisa very interesting we recycle everything and the funny part is that on our street there are about 5 -10 people that go from container to container and the "cherry pick" the stuff that they can  monetize....wine bottles, beer bottles, juice bottles.... kitty litter containers.... and what is left the Recycling Truck takes... and we are doing our fair share... like  Nina Hollander  our recyle bin is fuller than our Trash bin:))Endre
