Thunder & Lightning - Heavy Rain started this morning in Flower Mound. Last night was the same. I began to think about winter and wondered what the Farmer's Almanac predicted for 2017.

I did not like was a saw

What I saw, I did not like

Like it or not, Winter is coming

Coming soon is cold & wet

--- Patricia Feager

Yesterday I had my irrigation system winterized and many sprinkler heads were replaced. A few days ago, I purchased two rear tires - will be getting front tires soon after I have some routine maintenance done. I'm not happy with the Farmer's Almanac predictions for Winter 2017. I never saw a winter prediction for North Dallas: "Chilled-to-the-Bone" and wet. I thought I left all that behind in Chicago... Better book that furnace check ASAP. Gloves, scarves, winter boots, oh my! I'm not ready for winter attire! I'm going to need an ice scraper - haven't seen or used one of those in years! I don't even think they sell them in Texas.

Ready or Not - looks like no one on the map is going to be spared. It looks like a cold winter. Brrr... for some worse than others. If you're a bird lover, make sure you have a supply of bird seed and feeders on hand. Bird Suet will help out those little frequent flyers who don't fly south for the winter. By looking at the Farmer's Almanac Map, how much further south can people go???

Barbara Todaro - I think shopping early would be a smart idea. Shovel? I don't have one of those either! I tossed mine out when I moved here and never had reason to buy or use one.

I think you're the only one I've ever heard in my entire life say, "I'm looking forward to many days of shoveling snow!"

Patricia Feager there is no better way to stay in shape in the winter than shoveling snow... lifting large shovel fulls of heavy snow and throwing it....I love it....I canceled my plow guy who I had for decades.... and now I not only do my driveway and walkways, but I do my daughter's too.... my grandchildren think it's great to have a grandmother who does that!! I think because now they don't have to....

Michael J. Perry - It doesn't look promising for the entire United States! Even though we had a lot of rain last night and this morning, I wore a sweater to Church this morning but it was too hot. I think we're going into the unpredictable weather stage.

Hi Patricia - I count on the duck migration for my tips, and they haven't started showing up in any numbers here yet, so as bad as it probably will be, I don't expect it to begin real soon.

Hi, Dick Greenberg - Come to think of it, I haven't seen any duck migration yet either; although this is the weekend for Monarch Migration passing through Texas.

When I lived up North, in Chicago & Lake Villa, whenever we got a lot of rain, it was preparing the soil for a deep freeze. The only other sign I pay attention to are shedding and heavy winter coats on dogs and cats.

Hi Patricia....Chilled to the bone does not sound very good for your neck of the woods.  We had a very dry summer here in SE PA and in a way I welcome the snow to our area, even though it makes things a bit difficult like showing houses!  I will have to prepare like you have been doing.  Thanks for the report.

Happy Autumn!
