Delaware County PA - A Wonderful Place To Call Home
Delaware County is a wonderful place to live. It is full of history that dates back to the time of William Penn and earlier, it is located in the Southeastern part of Pennsylvania which experiences the four seasons of the year, and Delaware County is very close to many places of interest, which is a real perk for many of its' residents.
Historically, Delaware County if full of reminders of times gone by, such as this wonderful yellow three story house of Thomas Leiper, built along Crum Creek in 1787. When visiting this Historical Landmark one can only imagine a slower pace of life years ago where a few mills lined the local creeks and the Delaware River. Historical Markers across the county spell out places where William Penn visited, where Native Americans traded with settlers. And there are still many old large stone houses within walking distance to the train lines and trolley lines, that crisscross this area, still actively providing transportation to its residents, that are other reminders of the rich history of this county.
As I write this post, the autumn season is upon us here in Delaware County and that means the trees will be putting on their glorious display that is so enjoyed by people near and far. The brilliant colors of autumn as shown in this picture taken at the Wallingford Art Center creates an atmosphere of wonder where one cannot help but want to be outdoors to take in the beauty the season has to offer. It is a great time to take walks in Ridley Creek State Park or trips to the Pocono Mountains located just 60 miles north of Delaware County. Walking among the trees when they are changing colors is a wonderful experience and helps one to appreciate the beauty of Penns Woods.
In addition to the autumn season, Delaware County experiences the other three seasons; the cold snowy days of winter, the re-awakening of the plants and trees in spring, and the dog days of summer. Because Delaware County is so conveniently close to so many places, many residents take advantage of such places like:
-going to the Pocono Mountains to ski in Winter and kayak in summer
-visiting the Jersey shore in summer to ride the waves and beat the heat
-hopping on a train to see the cherry blossoms in Washington DC in spring
-taking a train ride in any season to take in a museum or play in NYC or downtown Philadelphia.
And it never really matters what season, it is always enjoyable to take a ride on a country road in Amish Country in Lancaster County as a day trip.
If you are considering living in Delaware County, consider no more and make this county your home!
