It is hard to believe. Can the Cubs actually end the Chicago saying of "maybe next year"? We will see very soon. People are very excited about the idea of the Cubs doing so well this year. Ever since they got a new manager in Joe Maddon things started to change. I remember hearing an interview with Joe and I know that this guy really cared.
Another interesting turn I am taking in this blog post is The neighborhood where Wrigley field is and how it has changed over the years. When I was a young lad this was a really a working class area. I remember going with my father in the 1969 season when the stars were Ernie Banks and Fergie Jenkins. Things were really different in those days.
Now this area of Chicago which is the Lakeview neighborhood has been re-named Wrigleyville. It is a place where the home prices have really gone up in the last few years and a place where kids love to party and hang out.
I just finished reading a great article about this part of Chicago in Rolling Stone. I highly suggest you click on the link and read the whole thing because it is really interesting. Wrigley Field is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood and not on the edge of an expressway like many of the newer fields of today.
I can't help but indulge myself and watch the Cubs play the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening on TV and hope they win. This is a very exciting time for Chicago. So many people are talking about the Cubbies and making bets on where this will all end up. I am not a gambling man.
Regardless of what happens, it is fun to watch the Cubs and visit "Wrigleyville" once in a while. I will take a pass on the roudy behavior too.
