Find Out About Silicon Valley Disasters Fast-Sign Up Now for SCCAlert
by Cupertino REALTOR Michelle Carr Crowe
With more people relying solely on cellular phones and eliminating landlines, there's a need for a fast way for local goverment agencies to communicate with Santa Clara County residents about emergencies.
County residents can sign up for free for SCCAlert, a supplemental service that performs a "reverse 911" to call and notify folks of emergencies. For example, in the Loma Fire, the service was used to contact residents in the evacuation zones and direct them to emergency shelters. It can be used in case of fire, flooding, and even crimes.
While reliable, residents should consider it a supplemental, rather than primary, notification system as the service is dependant upon wireless service providers and other factors.
To sign up, visit www.sccgov.org/sites/alertscc/Pages/home.aspx.
