Stevens Point Wisconsin, I love this town, and so will you!Sara disc golfing in Point

When I read the description for Ron and Alexandra Seigel 's challenge (Romanticize Your Marketplace: September Active Rain Contest!), I immediately recognized this as a post that was already written.  Not only already written but often sent along with other information when out of town prospects ask about homes that we have available in Stevens Point. Thanks for another opportunity to share a few of the many things that I love about this town.

*********************************

I first came to this town 35 years ago when I started college here.

It was a culture shock for me coming from a rural farm near a small town of 800 people.  At the time it seemed like a much larger metropolis than it seems to be today.

After 6 years of college I grew to love the city of Point and hated to leave to start my career, but everybody has to grow up and leave sometime.

A decade after starting my Forestry Consulting Company in Western Wisconsin, I was looking to expand and what better place than the home of the largest and most prestigious Forestry school in the country, UW Stevens Point.  And the place that I had grown to love so much when I was a student there.sign in the squaire in Stevens Point

So my wife found a new and better teaching job near Point and I left my top forester in charge at my Cadott office and headed off to Stevens Point to expand the business.

Some things had changed since I was in college but not the important things.

It is still predominantly a college town, with all the youth and energy that a college town inspires.

It is still the best place for biking both around town and on the 40 mile green circle trail that circles around the perimeter of the city.

There are many wonderful Churches in town, most within easy walking distance.

It has an old polish culture, which I have always found to be very welcoming, friendly and family oriented.

It has an old historic downtown area with many of interesting shops.  A town square which has transformed from a place of taverns when I was in college and the drinking age was lower to a vibrant centerpiece with a farmer's market, shops and the city fountain.art on the square in Stevens Point

There are far too many great things about Point to mention in one blog entry, but after all these years it is still my favorite little city of all the hundreds of cities that I have visited or lived in.

If you ever find yourself in Central Wisconsin, stop in for a visit, you may fall in love and want to stay too!Riverview park, downtown Stevens Point

How wonderful that you were able to come home to the town you'd loved as a student!  Stevens Point looks like a great place to live, though I suspect I would find winters a bit too cold.

Bob Crane It appears like Stevens Point is a 'thick slice' of Americana. No wonder you love the town and the surrounding area so much. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Bob

I have been to Stevens Point Wisconsin several times in my life when we had relatives that lived there in my younger years.

They have all since passed except maybe their children's-children and we really didn't know them.

Stevens Point is a wonderful smaller city/town and I always liked visiting there.

You found a great place to return "home" to! What business or office is in the first photo? I find it very intriguing.
