The Typical NYS Realtor...

Every once in a while something good shows up in my mailbox.... Once a month I can count on the delivery of New York State Realtor, the Official Publication of the NYS Association of Realtors.    This month I was intrigued to see the profile of "the typical New York State Realtor":

 * 55 year old female

* Homeowner

* Primarily a residential specialist with 10 years experience

* 69% said it was their only career

* Typically have 8 transactions each year

* 12% of business comes from repeat business and 20% from referrals from past clients

* 60% are affiliate with an independent company.

 

 An agent SHOULD BE a trusted member of your home buying or selling team whose EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCE helps your real estate goal become reality in an effective, efficient and professional fashion.  And while parts of me are "typical", I refuse to be typical in the parts that I consider the most important for my clients (transaction volume & client satisfaction). So how do I "stack up"? 

I'm getting closer to 55 but not there for awhile yet. ;)

I am a homeowner.

I am a full time agent. 

I am affiliated with the Capital Region's #1 Independent company: Miranda Real Estate Group, Inc.

I'm proud to say that I have 4+x the volume of transactions as compared to the typical NYS Realtor. 

I'm even more proud to say that over 85% of my business comes from past or referred clients.

I'm with you  Brenda... nothing typical about me either on any of those fronts... way older than the typical agent; not a first career for me; my transactions are also multiples of the typical; more than twice the experience; 75% of my business from repeat and referral, affiliated with an international franchise. I am however (last I checked) a female and a homeowner.

Yes, being "typical" isn't necessary where we want to be. I saw this list also in the NYS publication and laughed at the first few because I am 56, a homeowner and this is my only business. In regard to the others, I was interested to see I wasn't typical either.

Brenda, I was actually surprised at the median age of the realtor. Not the gender so much. I am over that age, so I feel pretty good about that!
