Apple Inc. Elk Grove Lays off Workers

Apple Computers of Elk Grove decided to lay off 174 workers in the sales and support division.  Apple has decided to move its sales and call center operations division to Austin Texas.  Apple employees were called in on Thursday and told that sales were good but they were being laid off because they wanted their sales and support division under one roof.  The Elk Grove Apple location will primarily focus on technical support.

Former employee Anthony Sims from Elk Grove was laid off; he had worked for Apple Computers since June 2007 as a blended agent in sales and service.  Anthony is also a promising local baseball player who trains at Champion Sports Inc. in Elk Grove and is a father of two young daughters ages 2 and 4 years old.

Anthony and other employees began to get suspicious about one week ago when managers were leaving to take jobs in Austin Texas and their jobs were not being filled.  Anthony and others were surprised by the layoffs and saddened because some co-workers had just bought new homes and had new babies.  Some employees felt that the layoffs were done so that Apple could reduce their cost especially in employee compensation.  In Austin the employee's salaries are far less and because of a new pay structure no commissions will be paid and employees will receive a base salary with a bonus.

This sounds sad, just like my old MBNA America Bank Job, what a sad thing it was for me as part of a Fortune 500 Company, I was ranked # 3 for the Dover, Delaware site when they closed down on March 10th 2006.  Even relocation didn't help....with a new Bank taking charge, I had no options left within the bank so thankfully my real estate career was brewing up back then!
