In a Service Industry, as a Real Estate Agent,

Who are YOU Serving?

Real Estate Brokerages and their Agents serve many people every year, but it is ultimately an income profession. Our profession, as a Real Estate Agent, has served Buyers for days, months and even years, without making a dime if the Buyer doesn't buy anything.

I have been hired by buyers, that never purchased a home though me, but my goal is to serve those who trust in my guidance and expertise. I Vow to help my client find a home and get the best price possible. With that in mind, I have my Buyer's interest as a priority in reaching my goal.

I have seen agents that, during the process, try to encourage the Buyer to make the highest offer possible, in order to receive a higher commission. That is not serving your client, but serving yourself!

The Dictionaries all agree that the Definition of "Service", is the action of

helping or doing work for someone, which includes a voluntary service.

Those who are in the business of only service themselves are violating the trust that our clients have in us, as professionals.  No wonder our profession has been criticized for the actions of a few.

By giving good service to our clients, we will also be serving ourselves, our reputation, and putting faith back into the Real Estate Profession, as a whole.

Who are YOU Serving?

Larry anyone whose practice is to serve themselves rather than placing their clients first will not be in business for long because the word gets around quickly.

George is correct, word does get around, we know some of those whose selfishness have caused them strain and stress.

Great thoughts, Larry.  I am thankful that the good usually outweighs the bad, but I have seen some things that anger me to no end.  I treat everyone as if they are my family.  That's the way it needs to be.  This is not a "sales" job it is a career in "service". As I say, Customer Service on Steroids!

I've known many agents who served only themselves - and always wondered how they stayed in business.

There was one broker in our town that a local attorney referred to as "John Use-em-all." When he quit and my landlord accused me of putting him out of business I said "No, he put himself out of business."

It's in all the paperwork..the agent is there to serve the best interest of the client!  The client should direct the agent, with input of course.  The process should be a collaboration

There's corruption in every industry, so is every person in those industries corrupt? Let's examine the medical, industry, doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, medical facilities where fraud, waste, and abuse is rampant and costs consumers hundreds of millions of dollars every year. I reject perceptions by anybody who associates corruption of one or a few to conclude that all in the industry is corrupt, therefore, all are guilty because of a few.

Sometimes, leaders of organizations punish everybody for the mistakes of a few. For example,  coaches do this often because, in team sports, a penalty isn't against an individual, it's against the entire team and affects the team.  So, make a mistake and everybody pays but not in our industry, don't you agree?
