Realtors Are Like Icebergs

Reblogger Carla Muss-Jacobs, RETIRED

A GREAT example of what we do . . . "It's the tip of the iceberg"

And Myrl writes about CLIENTS who don't see what we do . . . what about the NON-CLIENT work?  The vasts amount of time (and money) we spend to develop our business.  To market, to advertise.

I estimate that I spend abuut 5 hours each day on NON-CLIENT work.  This includes, marketing, advertising in all it's forms, follow-ups, meetings, continuing education, newsletters, CRM -- the tip of the iceberg!  Reading and reviewing/viewing properties, pre-tours, etc.  There's so much we do in the before/during/after elements of our representation of clients.

It's no secret that many home buyers and home sellers don't fully realize all it takes to get a home sale successfully closed.

They witness some activity through our interaction with them; but often miss what occurs behind the scenes.

Here's an illustration putting it all into perspective. Realtors are like icebergs.

Thanks for the reblog, Carla!  It's greatly appreciated!

In our effort to make things appear easy in the name of professionalism, we sometimes sacrifice having clients understand the depth and scope of what it actually takes to close a transaction!

But, it's not just about the client and their understanding of the transaction <-------------- that, too, is another tip of the iceberg.

All the time we spend, that no one comprehends, runs deep!

Carla,  So true.  There is always non-client work to be done ... it never ends.

There are consumers, customers and clients -- Consumers come to our websites . . . so the maintenance of the site is paramount (I'm getting reading to embark on yet -- ANOTHER -- site update, switching IDX campanies, a total PITA, with countless hours going to be spent on that project.  Customers, meeting with people who may / may not turn into CLIENTS!  Then with clients -- the fun begins, doesn't it Kathleen Daniels

Hey Carla, most consumers have no idea what we REALLY do! Our families don't either!

Yes, our jobs definitely run deeper than anyone in the general public has any knowledge of.  Just look at all of the new agents in our business - how have you heard say, "I want to make the big bucks!"  Well, they want to but, they have NO idea how much work it is to make it in this business!
