This Florida raised gal is one that knows the strength and devastation a storm can cause. Whether flooding or high winds, they are to be taken seriously. Now, with that said , I recall sitting back and waiting MANY times just to see if it would shift, downgrade or by pass me all together. Living on the east coast means high surf, photo ops and in all respect it causes people to become reckless and endangered.
Please take heed when asked, be prepared and seek shelter.
My heart goes out today to those that didn't have a roof over their head all night as the storm leveled their villages in Cuba and Haiti. With mudslides and flooding ahead of them in the next few days I pray for their safety and those who will be volunterring for humanitarian efforts.
As Florida prepares for the impeding high winds and rain I pray they are out of harms way and realize a Category 4 is serious. My family is in Palm Beach Gardens and I understand it is sunny and calm. That calm is temporary. Don't delay in preparation . Anything that can be tied down, do so. Anything that can be brought inside or stored, do so. All pets need shelter too. Inside. Food for 3 days is suggested. Water. Batteries, candles and a radio. Fill up your gas tank incase the pumps go down. Evacuate if asked. Dont drive in standing water. Dont go near downed power lines or trees.
The storm will be headed to me soon, later in the week, here in Eastern NC. I pray Matthew spares us any catastrophic destruction and I pray God protects all first responders, emergency crews like power restoration workers and rescue teams. Lastly I pray for communities to come together and look out for our shut ins, elderly and needy.
Listen to your weather channel. Be prepared. Be calm and cautious. Be safe.
