WaCanId 2016 and Real Estate - Day 3

Rotary sponsored International Selkirk Loop WaCanId Bicycle Ride begins early morning, September 14 2016,  from Rossland BC and finishes the day in Nelson BC.  Today will show itself to be the most varied day in riding.  68 miles with over 4,800 feet in elevation climb.  (See Day 2 Post for elevation footnote).  That is tempered with 6,700 downhill.

Virtually out the Hotel Lobby door begins an 1,800 foot climb with 13 mile

grade to Nancy Greene Summit.

From there we enjoy a long downhill to Castlegar

BC. As we ride into town art work is along

the walkways to add to the towns curb appeal.

Taking a small detour, from the route,  we enjoy our lunch stop at the

newly finished Castlegar Millenium Park that sits on the Columbia River.

Moving away from the Columbia River and Castlegar we enjoy pastures

in the hillsides, rustic buildings, streams, creeks, a reservoir, and our final

descent into Nelson BC with our first glimses of Kootenai Lake.  Enjoyed from

Castlegar to Nelson is new paving.  Looking almost like glass in the afternoon

sun and shadows, this new paving makes riding seem virtually surreal.

As we finish today's ride and enter Nelson BC it means a few things.

Tomorrow we have a layover day to explore

Nelson BC, Sister City toSandpoint Idaho.  We

have traveled 224 miles of our 371 miles and

climbed atotal of over 14,000 feet.

How do I compare WaCanId Day 3 to Real Estate?  There are times when

many different issues are being delt with at the same time and yet they seem

to be getting done easily.  Our work still needs be done, and yet it is almost as

if we are in cruise control.  These are times to be savored and enjoyed. While

our work takes planning and focus there are many things outside our control

that will fall into place along with our hard work. Everything seems to fit

and move perfectly.  Appreciate the part you have played in the smooth ride,

as well as all the work around you that has fallen into place perfectly.  While I

had nothing to do with the work and planning of miles of new paving I

certainly would not have been able to enjoy it had I not been in shape to

make it to this portion of the ride.

That is funny Jeff Dowler .  I was thinking of you also as far as your rides of 3 'century's' back to back to back.  You are an animal to have completed that.  And go back for more.  Very impressive.  Mark

Sounds like a nice leisurely ride.  NOT!  You worked hard and I bet the reward of the finish felt pretty amazing.

Endre Barath, Jr. I will let you in on a little something that everyone seems to be missing.  This ride is complete.  I have been putting dates in and no one seems to be catching them.   I did take a laptop with me but was unsure of how I wanted to organize the posts.  So after a couple of weeks I have pics somewhat organized and definitely know what I want to say.  Thank you for stopping by.  Always enjoy you.  Mark

Endre Barath, Jr.  I had not ridden a bike in over 35 years.  And certainly nothing even close to these rides.  I did not even know what a road bike was back then. So when I started training this year the seat was an issue.  Thought I could shave a 2x4 and would probably be more comfortable.  First few weeks a crack or RR tracks, or even a small dip in the pavement, would bring tears to my eyes - literally.  I thought there was no way I would ever get used to it.  Somewhere along the line it went from painful, to uncomfortable, to OK, and surprisingly from there it now actually feels natural to step into the saddle.  Mark
