Bill what an interesting post! I've never paid much attention to the sounds of a house but now that I think about it we do have some pretty common sounds. The coolest one comes from outside the house. We have a family of mockingbirds that sit atop the fireplace chimny and sing their beautiful songs for all to hear in our home. The first time I heard it (years ago) it sounded just like they were in the house!

This was an entertaining post, but filled with lots of truth. I suspect many of us get used to whatever noises our homes make (I still remember the noisy steam radiators we had back in Boston), and they all make them, but hopefully also recognize when there is a noise the house shouldn't be making---like dripping water.
