Buying a Smart Home: What to Look For

By
Real Estate Agent with Russ Lyon Sotheby's International Realty

When it comes to buying a home at Sotheby’s Scottsdale, many home buyers are looking for Smart Homes, or rather those with more security. Here are some tips I found that’ll help you make smart decisions in your purchase.

Avoid Temptations

Smart homes offer convenience and peace of mind, as well. While it used to be only the more affluent could afford a Sotheby’s Scottsdale smart home, by shopping wisely, you can find a smart home to your liking without spending a lot of money.

While smart homes cost more, you’ll end up paying less on your utility bills and in just overall costs. That’s due to maximizing the solar energy and thermostats that regulate power.

Customization

When looking for a smart home with your Sotheby’s Scottsdale agent, have a list prepared of must-haves, tastes, and preferences. You certainly don’t want to pay for items you do not need while giving up some preferences you really want.

Stay on Budget

Again, you need to decide what the most important features are in a smart home and stick to the list, otherwise, you might go over budget. Burglar proofing devices are obviously important as well as maybe laser-sensitive gates. But you really should ask yourself if smart toilets are necessary in your Sotheby’s Scottsdale home and other similar modern features.

Make the Right Decision

Remember, even though you’re buying a smart home from Sotheby’s Scottsdale, it’’s still a real estate investment. So just don’t focus on the smart home features. You don’t want to ignore other important features of the home such as location, community amenities, good school districts, etc.

You, obviously, want to focus on the resale value, as well. Don’t let the features of smart home force you to make a poor investment decision. In some cases, it might be best to find the right home and then automate it later.

Do Your Homework

Whatever technology you decide to go with in purchasing your Sotheby’s Scottsdale home, keep in mind, it could become obsolete in the future. Before investing any money, do your homework, and try to anticipate what’s down-the-road.
